Education : Best of 2022 : Semester #1

Looking back 2022 I've come up with a roundup of what's been the best posts of my blog The Digital Teacher G-Souto.

Well, school year was not so bad. In-person lessons have been possible all year. Students and teachers finished the school year with joy and some relief. 

Children an teen are happier at school, they learn better, develop social skills, they need to be among their school mates, learning in-person lessons, having teachers near by to ask, talk and learn.

The selection is based on page views but also based on pedagogical relevance of the most-read posts.

I kept the order of the most viewed, and eliminated the posts that seemed less relevant. The main reason? Sometimes some posts acquire too much visibility, not for their value but for the keywords that the search engines "like" indexing.

My special choice of the #1st semester 2022? Great Women in Literature : Lesya Ukrainka, Ukrainian poetess : Values of peace & tolerance ! Resources in honour of the women, mothers, wives, girls friend, the great Ukrainian heroines under this terrible war who lost their sons, husbands, boys friend and brothers.

Lesia Ukrainka represents all these heroines. Lesia Ukrainka pseudonym of Larysa Petrivna Kosach-Kvitka was a writer, translator, folklorist, public and cultural activist, and most important a pioneer of the Ukrainian feminist movement. 






She is one of the most internationally acknowledged figures of the national culture. The cofounder of the widely known literary society “Pleiada,” she wrote poetry, epics, novels, essays, developed the genre of poetic drama in the national literature, and belongs to the short list of the most famous women in the Ukrainian history.


The Ukrainian national poetess Lesya Ukrainka has contributed greatly to the development of Ukrainian Modernism and its transition from Ukrainian ethnographic themes to subjects that were universal, historical and psychological.

May 2023 be year of hope for all of us, the end of war in Europe, and all the difficulties all over the world due the pandemic Covid-19 last years and now this terrible war. 

Teachers and students fight for peace, development, and climate change. Earth is our home.

Teachers continue to teach with passion, inspiring your students to be better citizens in the future  and environmental defenders, preparing them to the new world and a new the future. Give them hope, joy, serenity.

Schools : Peace Day : #CyberNonviolence & #ClimateAction4Peace !





20 Years of Peace One Day

This Peace Day, Saturday 21 September 2019, marks 20 years since the launch of Peace Day.

"Peace One Day’s objective is to institutionalize Peace Day 21 September. Throughout 20 years, millions of people have been active on Peace Day in every country of the world, and hundreds of organizations have carried out life-saving activities in areas of conflict."



Peace One Day is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1999. In 2001 due to our efforts the member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21 September – Peace Day.



Theme 2019:
2019 sees the launch of Peace One Day’s new campaign “Cyber Non-violence”, seeking to decrease online hate speech, racism, bullying and ridicule, and hoping to see an increase in peaceful communication online.


Education:


Peace Day invite students, teachers, schools and youth organization all over the world to participate in this year’s focus youth project: ​#PeaceDay193​.
  • Aim:
The ambition is - for the first time ever - to record young people committing to Peace Day across all ​193 UN Member States​. 

On Peace Day, 21 September, we will compile ​193 photos​ of young people (1 selected from each country) as an artistic installation at the flagship Peace Day celebration, in London. It will look incredible!

This photo is an opportunity for any young person (under 25), school or youth organization to be the face of peace advocacy for all of your country.

In a questionnaire among the Peace One Day Global Schools’ Network, more than two-thirds (68%) of responding schools stated that pupils act more peacefully on Peace Day (in comparison to any other school day).

Individual behavioral change is the platform upon which young people play an essential role in a much bigger story of positive progress. Through creative contribution, achievement through teamwork, and community development, young people understand - experientially - what it means to ‘make a difference’.

Peace Day presents schools, young people, teachers, parents and anti-bullying groups with a valuable focal point for their efforts in combating cyber-bullying worldwide. 

Peace Day wants to decrease online hate speech, racism, bullying and ridicule on Peace Day 21 September 2019.

I'm sure teachers and schools have organized activities on Cyber non-violence throughout this school year that help raise awareness of Peace Day 21 September and encourage students, parents and other to join the campaign.

Choose to mark the day, this year, one day, before or after, because 21 September is on Saturday whatever the scale of their activity, their commitment matters. 

Invite your students to create public or private activities related to peace, and cyber non-violence to help spread the word about Peace Day and/or attend an event in their city or community.

International Climate Action for Peace
September 21 is also UN International Day of Peace. Sustainable Development Goal 13 Climate Action is a call for immediate action by all to lower greenhouse emissions, build resilience and improve education on climate change.

Theme 2019: "Climate Action for Peace"
The theme draws attention to the importance of combating climate change as a way to protect and promote peace throughout the world.

Young people are stepping up to the challenge - close to half a million youth around the world have taken action on climate change in their homes, schools and communities.

According to UNFCCC, they are key actors in raising awareness, running educational programmes, promoting sustainable lifestyles, conserving nature, supporting renewable energy, adopting environmentally-friendly practices and implementing adaptation and mitigation projects.

Youth Film Competition : Let's participate !





ResponSEAble


ResponSEAble is looking for creative short films about how to make tourism more sustainable.

Turning the Tide Youh Contest aims for sustainable coastal tourism in the Mediterranean and invite young people to make a personal film telling about the places around the Mediterranean Sea which are important to every participant.

Perhaps there are young people who enjoy, snorkelling, swimming, sailing or other activities which get them close to nature.

Perhaps someone knows about places where people are making more effort to balance tourism with protecting wildlife and the coastal environment. 

Or they have great ideas about how they could do things better when it comes to holidays that do not cause damage to the natural environment?
Whichever approach every participant chooses, ResponSEAble wants young participants use their creative, storytelling skills to address some of the questions and issues:


Mediterranean coast

  • How can we enjoy the Mediterranean Sea and its beautiful coast and wildlife without destroying it?

  • Do they know of examples where tourism has caused problems with over use of resources and harm to the natural environment?

  • Do they know of examples of ‘eco-tourism’, where people can enjoy holidays but without having a negative impact on nature and cultural heritage?

  • How can more sustainable tourism bring jobs and economic benefits to coastal communities while at the same time protecting nature and wildlife?


How to participate:

  • Participants will produce a short film (3-5 minutes long);
  • They can make the short film in any language but they must add English subtitles;
  • Previous films if it had been made within 12 months may be submitted;
  • Participants can work alone or with a group, but you must all be in the same age group;
If they are entering from a school or group they can give that information;

Important: Do not forget!

  • Young participants should use only music which is free or licensed;
  • They should ask permission from people that you will film;
  • Each film should be in English or have English subtitles;
  • The films should be 3-5 minutes long;
  • Participants must live in the European Union (UE).

 Ages:

There are two different age groups:  13-17 or 18-25.

 To enter:
Complete the entry form giving contact details of the participants. And send the films to filmcompetition@responseable.eu using We Tranfer.

Judging:
The judging team will review all the films and select a shortlist which will then go online for the public vote: from January 15, 2018 to March 9, 2018.

Winners 
Winners will be announced on March 19, 2018.

Prizes:
ResponSEAble has got some fantastic prizes, great for using on a outdoor holiday, while also being sustainable and protected the environment!
The top 3 films in each age group will get a Re-Kanken rucksack from Fjall Raven made recycled plastic bottles.
ResponSEAble also has a judges prize of a pair of fairtrade vegan and sustainable flip-flops from Ethletic.


Education:
The group 13-17 years old will be studying at elementary and high-school. So, teachers can invite their students to participate.
Interesting activity for students who love filming (YouTube generation!) and are taking part at Multimedia clubs at schools or even are studying Arts (group 18-25) at college.

Young people love participate in contests. They get excited to show off their skills no matter the contest. But a contest about making a short film? Nature? They are a generation who preserve the environment. No doubt!

It will be awesome to participate in this short film contest about nature and sustainable tourism, sending a film youth made at a lovely place, whatever the European country (EU). Don't forget!
