"I have, for dance, not only the pride of a dancer and choreographer, but profound gratitude. Dance gave me my lucky break. It has become my ethics by virtue of its discipline and provided the means through which I discover the world daily."
Mourad Merzouki, French choreographer and dancer
message of International Dance Day 2014
Since dancing has been an integral part of human culture, there is certainly a day to mark its presence too.
Initiated in 1982 by the International Dance Council at UNESCO, International Theatre Institute, International Dance Day falls on April 29 of every year. The day coincides with the birth anniversary of the French dancer and ballet master Jean-Georges Noverre, a distinguished choreographer that brought about significant reforms in ballet production.
Every year, the International Dance Committee of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute circulates a message around the world as part of International Dance Day celebrations.

Every year, the International Dance Committee of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute circulates a message around the world as part of International Dance Day celebrations.
An international message authored by a well-known dance personality is circulated around the world as part of International Dance Day celebrations.
The International Dance Day message author 2014 is the French choreographer and dancer Mourad Merzouki!
The intention of the International Dance Day Message is to celebrate Dance, to revel in the universality of this art form, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together with a common language - Dance.
Every year the message from an outstanding choreographer or dancer is circulated throughout the world. The personality is selected by the founding entity of the International Dance Day - the International Dance Committee of the ITI, which collaborates with World Dance Alliance, a Cooperating Member of the ITI.
"In a world of extraordinary complexity, a premium is placed on one's ability to quickly process massive amounts of wildly varying types of information. Musical instruction helps young people develop the brain capacity to process a lot of information and to organize and present it."
Ted Barone
And every year I write about the International Dance Day ! I really believe on the importance of Arts in school education! Having a master of Music, I know how enjoyable it is my life with Arts education.
Dance is one word that can set anybody’s feet pulsating and swaying to its rhythm. Everybody likes to dance in their own way.
Dance is a fun and fresh integrative part in the school curriculum. School curriculum wthout Arts - Music, Dance, Theater - will offer a poor education. The students will have an incomplete education.
Dance is also a good therapy for young people in school. Dance movement therapy and the power of dance are used to inspire, uplift, and heal the youth.
There is a great number of gifted students that can't afford an early artistic education.
Students attending schools in high poverty communities have less access to Arts instruction than their peers in more affluent communities. They have not the chance to study Arts. They are losing the opportunity to include Arts in their activities extra-school. School time will be the right place to educate young people on Arts.

It is proved that Arts - music, dance theater - are a wonderful therapy for hyperactive kids that have concentration problems as well.
Arts give students the concentration discipline and the pleasure to express with creativity.
Some thoughts:
It's true that a great number of schools do not have a specialist of Arts in full-time-equivalent, although Secondary schools are much more likely than elementary schools to employ specialists.
It's important to tell school directors, regular teachers, parents, and students that Arts are a core subject by providing professional development for teachers and establishing assessment and accountability systems for Arts education.
Savion Glover
Why not inviting a dancer to led a dance class in your school ? Savion Glover, the great American tap-dancing - remember thewho teaches students to tap says:
It would be interesting to give a different meaning of Arts in school curriculum and to have good Arts teachers providing professional first development for kids that could, in a different level of education, continue Arts studies at Arts Higher Schools.
Pressure to improve test scores in other content areas is another top reason to Arts education.
Today, around the world, there will be many performances open-door-courses, exhibitions, articles concerning all kinds of dance, dance evenings, street shows, and special performances at schools, colleges, and of course out of doors.
So, don't miss the opportunity to let your students express themselves by dancing in the school gardens, for example, or at the recitation room.
Let your students be happy, today ! And dance !

"Puis-je dire que je n’existerais pas sans la danse ? Sans la capacité à m’exprimer qu’elle m’a donnée? Sans la confiance que j’y ai trouvée pour dépasser les peurs, m’échapper des chemins condamnés?
Plongé grâce à elle dans la beauté et la complexité du monde, je suis devenu citoyen, citoyen singulier réinventant les codes au fil des rencontres, fidèle aux valeurs de la culture hip-hop qui transforme l’énergie négative en force positive."
