A bit of History?

Rewind Cities Lisbon takes your students on a journey into the past and takes them to Rua de S. Bento where in 1758 was built the S. Bento Arch. 

In 1938, during the redevelopment of the surrounding area of the Palace of the King’s Courts, currently the Parliament, it was dismantled and its stones numbered, remaining so for 60 years, first in the gardens of the Ajuda Palace, then in Praça de Espanha, where it was finally rebuilt in 1998.

All augmented reality AR experiences require that you guide your students to its specific point of interest. 

Just ask your students to place themselves exactly on the marker, and when it turns pink activate the experience.

This app was not created for students. But I think it's a great educational resource to include into History lessons, Arts and Culture and Techonology/AR.

Perfect for the expert historians, teachers, local or not schools, to study History of Portugal and  World Heritage Sites.

Your students, Portuguese or not, will learn in a funny and modern way about the history of Lisbon, Portugal.

3rd Prize to Innovative Ideas for Apps in Mobile Environments

The UAM-Telefónica Chair is carrying out its 3d edition of the Prize to Innovation in Mobile Environments. This year, the focus will be on apps.

Submission:

Submit ideas within 4 pages max, in Spanish and with no need to describe the technical process to develop the app. 

Participants can submit more than a project, but it's important to submit each project separately.

Deadline:

31^st of January 2013

Themes:

Any theme.

Who:

Students, researchers and PYMES as well. The apps described in the proposals should be able to use Telefónica mobile networks.

Vocational Education: Higher Education.

Prizes:

There will be 3 prizes, the first of them of 10.000 euros.

Some personal ideas:

As app creators you should invest in quality ideas of apps of course. But you really know that Mobile learning is on the top in a lot of schools. So, don't forget the educational apps and the peadogogical quality.  Play, formative feedback, identity, narrative, activity, are not only the same things that make for a good app but also a good learning environment.

It's not vital for the prize but as an educator, I would like that you think about.

Those who are innovative and creating new apps that could extend children's learning and development will be important mediators in education.  

Mobiles are not only another platform but also come with a whole cool set of new interfaces and approaches in education.

The Google Art Project? Fantastic Resource !

"Explore museums from around the world, discover and view hundreds of artworks at incredible zoom levels, and even create and share your own collection of masterpieces."

Yesterday night, I discovered from @Google on Twitter, the fantastic Art Project ! Oh! I have been exploring some of the famous painting for hours. A wonderful art tour! I couldn't believe it! 


What is Art Project? Google Art Project is a virtual project in collaboration with some world's most acclaimed Art Museums. 


Seventeen world's masterpieces can now be observed to the last detail. Powered by a broad, connected suite of Google technologies, the world's great works of art and museums are now within reach to an unprecedented global audience.

Museums like the the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Tate Britain and the National Gallery in London, and the Van Gogh Museum (Amsterdam), among many others. Amazing!

The new art project is housed at an interactive website, Googleartproject.com. Once inside the site, viewers can travel through a museum’s interior through the same technology used to navigate city streets on Google Maps and Google Earth. People can move from room to room within the virtual space; over 1000 artworks painted by 400 artists can be seen.

How do you get started on the website?

Select a museum from the homepage and then either chose ‘Explore the museum’ or ‘View Artworks’. Once you are in the main site, use the drop-down menus or the side info bar to navigate between artworks and museums.

You have the option to create  and share your own artwork collection online. You must click on Create a collection

Education: 

Such a wonderful tool art for educators and students! If you are Arts educator you have the best motivation for your students. Visit Education page

• Teachers will choose a masterpiece or will create a gallery to prepare some lessons.

• Students will have the opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful masterpieces.

• Students and educators have the option to create and share their own artwork collection while visiting each museum. They must be signed into a school Google account or their own Google account that they can use in the classroom.

The Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium, Brussels, is proud to be part of the second phase of the Google Art Project. 

In December 2011, a team of the Google Art Project came to Brussels to digitize the masterpiece of Bruegel the Elder "The Fall of the Rebel Angels" (1562).

YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011

YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011 is the world’s first collaborative, online, international orchestra. Thousands of musicians from around the world auditioned online for a place in this year’s orchestra.  At this grand finale event, amateurs and professionals between the ages of 14 and 49, from thirty three countries around the world converge on Sydney to perform a spectacular and thrilling program of symphonic music that showcases the extraordinary talents of this truly global orchestra.

From the 336 finalists voted until December 2010, 36 young musicians from 33 countries has been announced by the jury today, January 11th, 2011.

Pedro Silva is a trompet musician who is studying Music at Universidade do Minho. He is the only Portuguese young musician selected from the jury for "You Tube Simphony Orchestra 2011". You can listen Pedro's audition here

The best and most creative performers has been selected to form the "YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011" and invited to perform in March at Sydney Opera House, under the direction of world-renowned conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and YouTube Symphony Artistic Advisor, Michael Tilson Thomas.

An epic multimedia event from the imaginations of YouTube, Sydney Opera House, Michael Tilson Thomas and Mason Bates. This gala performance will feature soaring music and vast images projected on the interior and sails of the Sydney Opera House.

Now we have music using the latest Techonologies! Arcade Fire and Google maps, Gorillaz composing on iPad. So, we can say, dawn of the age of the Tech music!
