April in Review & Jour des Pères (France & Quebec) !

illustration: Mathou, crayon d'humour

Sonora Smart Dodd
via BBC/ World

How important it is for children to have a role model in their life?

When speaking about bravery many will say that their dad is a key figure.

When illustrating this book, I tried to put the accent on the dad and son relationship and also on the self-compassion when it comes to our fears. From this story children will learn that it’s ok to be afraid and how to overcome it.

Schools : April in Review & Journée Internationale Petit Prince

April in Review & Narrative : Marvel sequel Avengers Endgame

Avengers: Endgame
Anthony Russo & Joe Russo, 2019

Yesterday, Labor DayI went to the theaters to watch the film Avengers: Endgame. Wow! Crowded room! It's now the most tweeted about movie ever. Over 50 million tweets have been sent about the climactic conclusion to the Infinity Saga. Indeed. So emotional!

It's the 2019 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

It' s the sequel to 2012's The Avengers, 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron and 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, and the 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to undo Thanos' actions and restore order to the universe.

So it starts where Infinity War ended with Thanos snapping his fingers. That turned 50 per cent of the cosmic population, a plethora of Avengers included, to dust.

Unfortunately, one of our most beloved heroes died. Iron Man. We were so sad! All of us went out in silence. No words, no conversation. Some tears in eyes. Intense finale!

"Make no mistake about it, Endgame is a tragedy. A number of beloved superheroes do rematerialise in the sequel, as has been widely speculated, but the MCU has undergone an irrevocable shift. Things are never going to be the same again."

Vicky Roach

The film received praise for its direction, acting, entertainment value, and emotional weight, with critics lauding its culmination of the 22-film story.

"What marks Endgame apart from your average superhero movie — apart from sheer scale — is the degree to which the main protagonists have been ravaged by grief, time, and above all, failure."

Narrative. Here another sequel to teach and learn about narrative. Go to the theater with your students if you are teaching comics in Narrative

Wherever you are, I hope you are happy teaching in your country.  Spring is awesome! We take some breath air walking or cycling before to go to the school.

Thanks all the educators from around the world who kindly continue to read my blog every day.

The classroom must be an open window to the world. Students must feel free to talk and share ideas about all the subjects they care about, in and around every curriculum.

Have a nice time wherever you are! Here, Spring time!

Education : April in review & World Press Freedom Day for Peace

Yesterday 3 May, Unesco celebrated the World Press Freedom DayIt serves as an occasion to inform citizens of violations of press freedom - a reminder that in dozens of countries around the world, publications are censored, fined, suspended and closed down, while journalists, editors and publishers are harassed, attacked, detained and even murdered.

  • Theme 2017
Under the theme, "Critical Minds for Critical Times: Media's role in advancing peaceful, just and inclusive societies", World Press Freedom Day 2017 calls to stay critical and defend free, independent and quality journalism in order to have better societies.

cartoonist : Cristina Sampaio

Every year since 1993 which celebrates the fundamental principles of press freedom; to evaluate press freedom around the world, to defend the media from attacks on their independence and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.

It is a date to encourage and develop initiatives in favour of press freedom, and to assess the state of press freedom worldwide.

Regis Debray

Education: resources for teachers

To mark World Press Freedom Day 2017, UNESCO and Cartooning for Peace, an international organization founded by Kofi Annan, 2001 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former United Nations Secretary-General, and editorial cartoonist Plantu, have curated a selection of press cartoons.
Designed by committed press cartoonists from around the world, fifteen cartoons combine "humor, satire and tragedy to express their views on the state of press freedom and the many challenges that media and journalists face for informing citizens and carrying out critical reporting on issues of public interest."
Together with Cartooning for Peace/Dessins pour la Paix, Unescowe is publishing Cartoons for Freedom of Expression as part of the celebrations of World Press Freedom Day (3 May 2017).

Ask your students to visit the exposure Cartoons for Freedom of Expression and explore the cartoons before a debate about freedom of expression in the classroom.

I think I could not have a better introduction to my review of the most read posts of April.
