Arts Education : Street Photography Contest

April 15  is World Art DayOxford Art Online opens a photography competition.

"We invite you to celebrate with us by submitting your own art to our Street Photography Contest."

There are so many special days that we have the change to celebrate throughout the year: Women’s Day, Peace Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentines’ Day, Worker’s Day, Theater Day and so and so.

But there was not a special Art Day that would unite the whole world.

On April 5-6, 2011, the 17th General Assembly of International Association of Arts (AIAP / IAA World), holding its meeting in Guadalajara, (World Art Associations founded in 1954) has voted unanimously the proposal brought by Turkey and co-signed by several world delegate countries accepted that the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, April 15, would become “World Art Day”.

The existence of World Art Day will help tremendously the spreading of the “art awareness” throughout the globe.

The first celebrations started on April 15, 2012.

Some information:

According Grove Art Online, street photography is:

Genre of photography that can be understood as the product of an artistic interaction between a photographer and an urban public space.

It is distinguished from documentary photography in that the photographer is not necessarily motivated by the evidentiary value or socio-political function of the resulting photographs.

Unlike photojournalism, a street photographer’s images are not intended to illustrate a news story or other narrative. Instead, their primary goal is expressive and communicates a subjective impression of the experience of everyday life in a city.

Thus neither the locale nor the subject-matter defines street photography; it is the photographer’s approach to the medium and movement through public space that differentiate street photography from related forms of photography.
