October rundown of the most read posts : resources

Harry Potter fans were counting down to last Friday. Just in time for Halloween, Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling published a new essay one of her greatest villains: the Hogwarts professor and witch, Dolores Umbridge.

She was introduced to the world of Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix when she taught Defense Against the Dark Arts to Harry and his schoolmates.

It follows a string of new Potter material released by Rowling this year via Pottermore.com. In July a fake news story about the Quidditch World Cup that gave an update on Harry, Ron, and Hermione, a snarky World Cup liveblog from the notorious Rita Skeeter, and a deep look at the singing witch Celestina Warbeck.

I could not write about the Umbridge new story Umbridge new story on October 31. But I published the news on my Facebook page.

It's the end of the month and as I do every month I have put together a list of the most popular posts of the month. You will find posts written in English, French and Portuguese.

Here my list of the most popular posts of the month:

Apps in Education: Photomath, the dream for students

Hope you had fun on Halloween. The winter is back after a sunny and warming October, we had a chilly Halloween suddenly. A spooky Halloween poem?

The skies they were ashen and sober;
      The leaves they were crisped and sere—
      The leaves they were withering and sere;
It was night in the lonesome October
      Of my most immemorial year;
It was hard by the dim lake of Auber,
      In the misty mid region of Weir—
It was down by the dank tarn of Auber,

      In the ghoul-haunted woodland of Weir. (...)

Wherever you are this weekend, I hope that you have time for something fun too.

I'm back to posting the normal roundup this week.

I can't finish this post without remember Steve Jobs. Yesterday, October 5 exactly three years ago Steve Jobs left us. But his legacy will last forever. Steve not only created one of the world's most valuable enterprise but his perspective on technology in education (iPads) have and will continue to inspire us to teach using technology to enhance learning. On his third death anniversary, here my tribute.

Here is the Steve jobs inspiring speech which teaches most important life lesson for students, entrepreneurs, teachers, employees and everybody else.

"Focus on what you have in order to create what you want."
Steve Jobs
Wherever you are, don't lose your joy and spontaneity of teaching. Teaching is a challenging job with many unique frustrations, but the rewards of teaching are numerable. Keep that in mind.

I'm back to posting the normal roundup this week.

MEDEA Awards 2013

Good morning. I am back from my wonderful summer break in Paris. It was so good to revisit Paris! I will talk about later.

Today, I am going to write about the 6th edition of MEDEA Awards 2013.

MEDEA Awards 2013 announced its call of entries some months ago. Now, the deadline to send your entries as participants is approaching, September 30, 2013.

As you know since 2009 I am participating at MEDEA Awards. So I am glad to promote such an interesting project that encourages innovation and good practices in the use of media in Education.

The deadline to receive participants' entries is 30 September 2013 and the winners will be announced at the MEDEA Awards Ceremony on 12 December 2013 taking place during the Media & Learning Conference (12-13 December) that will take place in Brussels.

As an educator, I know how important it is to teachers be encouraged as I was in 2004 from Global Junior Challenge. It is a joy to participate with students at awards that captivate their attention and dignify their school work. It's a bit of fame that students appreciate!

"Entries are arriving at the MEDEA Awards Secretariat from practitioners and educational media producers from Europe and further afield and we are looking forward to a receiving a lot more before the 30 September deadline."

Highly commented 2012

The aim of the MEDEA Awards is "to encourage innovation and good practice in the use of media (audio, video, graphics and animation) in education."

The awards also recognise and promote excellence in the production and pedagogical design of media-rich learning resources.

Innovation and good practices are possible better with the new technologies always giving us fantastic resources.

The 'screen-generation' is used to be online all the time. So, innovative educators understood the meaning of changing academic practices and go to digital. Mobile devices really pushed up for pedagogical applications.

Now video, audio are routine components of an open education (in and out school) based on educational environments that recognize and reflect the media-rich world in which our learners now live. El Rap de la educación 2.0 is conclusive, don't you think?
