Steve Jobs : my tribute as a teacher to Mr. Jobs !

Steve Jobs [1955-2011]

As an teacher, I would like to remember Steve Jobs as an innovative mind or a "visionary and creative genius" in the field of educational technology. This is my tribute.

With his creativity, Steve Jobs helped me and you, as teachers and practitioners to bring appealing digital devices and digital resources into school curriculum.

Time
Steve Jobs

He have inspired me to be great and better changing the way I teach, using educative technology.

Teaching and learning with smartphones, iPods and iPads has become  so exciting to students and teachers. School curricula become more captivating to  students and easier to teachers, enhancing digital skills in formal or informal learning.

Mr. Jobs revolutionized completely the concept of education bringing a captivating technology in Education and help teachers igniting the creativity in students. Smartphones, and iPod were on the hands of all students. Why not include those devices into the classroom! So, I did it and my students were very enthusiastic and they really used them for learning.

As an innovative educator since the 90's it was a joy to share my dreams and projects with my students: practicing formal learning and non formal learning.

Later, I include tablets/iPads when they arrived to Portugal. And I wrote How I love iPad2 in the classroom: "So, as a teacher, I can say that iPad will "change the learning landscape"! iPad 2 will change completely the way educators and students will move in the classroom!"

Steve Jobs
I was fascinated about it! Still  am...

In 2009 I explained on my blog post Digital Schools versus Digital Teachers: " I did not grow up with Technology. It grew up with me, and I was there every step of the way. A "digital pioneer" who is doing a enthusiastic job infusing technology meaningfully into teaching and learning."

And Now Alice for the iPad, iPad features & Education?, Some apps for iPad helping education and other posts about iPad or other devices in the classroom.  You will find different posts on technology enhancing education on my blog along the years.

If you visit Apple website you can go directly to Apple in Education and you will realize that you have a gorgeous world about iPad apps to include into the school curriculum (some are free).

"Every child is born full of creativity. Nurturing it is one of the most important things educators do. Creativity makes your students better communicators and problem solvers. It prepares them to thrive in today’s world — and to shape tomorrow’s."

Teachers as us are always thinking how can we captivating students to a better school performance. So, students understood immediately how the iPad could help their creativity and learning in the classroom. And they did incredible experiences. You have a lot of videos on YouTube about the iPad in Education.

"You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle".

Steve Jobs, I to live before you die
at Stanford University

So sad! Steve Jobs has passed away. Thank you dear Mr. Jobs for your genius and remarkable strides in all fields, especially in Education.

iPad features & Education ? Reading !

iPad is not for sale in Portugal... not yet!

But when we see this video we are looking forward to test this amazing innovative device to use into school curriculum! Don't you think? It's love at first site!

Some opinions:

But people who know it well say that the Apple tablet is heavier than Kindle. It's necessary to hold iPad with both hands. And it slides easily on our knees. No problem. Kindle will disappear... not iPad.

When we write on iPad is a bit boring because finger touches stay on screen and the reflexes as well.

The keyboard is strait, the accents and punctuation are very hard to do, even with auto-correction! But browsing is so fast! Image and sound so marvelous!

Tired, they say, but fascinated!

Steve Jobs said that more than a million of iPad tablets were sold in 28 days! Wow! And more than 5 millions of e-books to the tablet were download in the first 65 days from iBookstore that is the store of e-books from Apple.

iBooks App

Reading children's books on iPad ? That must be quite amazing for kids who love technology. They are growing up with tech. Yet even with all the extras, reading is so natural on iPad, the technology seems to disappear.

Do you remember Alice in Wonderland for iPad ? It was so fun and so beautiful! I was fascinated! I'm not a digital native, but I'm a digital pioneer  and proud to be! Technology is growing up and I can use it. I can follow all the amazing evolution of new technologies.

On YouTube you can watch some videos showing 2-year-old children interacting easily with iPad! That's not amazing! Children are born on the digital era. They are natural digital natives.

Marvel Comics (demonstration)

For example, reading comics with Marvel application is like to enter in another dimension. True, right?

The application eBooks, as well as being available on iPad, is available on iPhone since April, free download through the App Store.

The application includes iBookstore (interesting!) which allows to browse, buy and read on a mobile device over than 60,000 titles available.

When students are reading a book, they may to do marks, highlights and notes. They can do it on eBooks, read and write PDF directly in the application.

And they will be able to read the same book on their iPad, on iPhone or iPod touch! Wow! eBooks on kids pocket.

A new and wonderful media world to use in Education! I 'm sure that young people will love reading on devices. Exciting!

Education:

You can use iPad into school curriculum to read and study a certain book/ebook you choose to include into your in-person lessons.

Students will be delighted! Just pick the right app to the level you are teaching.
