Xicara is a Portuguese group that mixes Portuguese poetry and folk music.

The group intends to provide a musical tribute to Portuguese poets, recalling traditions and celebrating Camões language, the symbol of Portuguese language.

Born of a Portuguese musical research of ethnography, this project aims the union of Portuguese traditional melodies and Portuguese Literature.

Revisiting Portuguese poetry, Xicara enlights the ability to inspire other forms of artistic expression.

Resulting from this union, a plurality of colors and shapes that extend in a ethnographic perspective, literary, musical and pedagogical.

Education:

Xicara tends to reach a younger audience, revealing a different facet of Portuguese poetry, the same Poetry that educators teach in Portuguese  language curriculum.

At the same time, Xicara declares the dynamic and multifaceted character of educational Music.

Xicara could be a wonderful motivation to introduce Portuguese Poetry into the classroom in a cross-curricula between Languages curriculum and Music curriculum.

Curricula: Languages ; Music

Target: High Junior Education ; Vocacional Education: Arts |Music

Xicara brings an universe of beauty, fresh sonority and art to our students!

Why languages matter? Languages matter because they help us to express our diverse heritage, perspectives, knowledge, ideas and emotions across generations.

And Music?

"It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music."

Billy Joel
