The beginning of a dream . a tribute to Diogo Vasconcelos

The Digital Agenda for Europe is the European Union's road map for bringing the benefits of a digital society and economy to Europe's citizens. But it can only deliver if all stakeholders are involved in assessing problems and identifying solutions.
The main objectives of the Assembly were:
  • Assess progress to date on delivery towards the Digital Agenda's goals and actions and seek ways to improve delivery;

  • Identify challenges ahead for the implementation of the Digital Agenda and for the information society in general;

  • Mobilise stakeholders' actions to make further progress and address challenges.

1st Digital Agenda Assembly

The European Commission therefore invited a broad range of participants from industry, the research community and NGOs, as well as representatives from Member State governments, and the other EU institutions to assess progress in meeting the targets of the Digital Agenda.
This "1st Digital Agenda Assembly" took place in Brussels on 16th and 17th June 2011.
Diogo Vasconcelos was one of the most appreciated panelist. He spoke at the Final Panel, Digital Agenda for Europe: the challenges ahead June 17th - "Social Impact of ICT".
Diogo Vasconcelos distinguished Fellow and Senior Director of Cisco Systems International, Member of the Board at Digital Europe, founder of UMIC (Unidade de Missão, Inovação e Conhecimento), promotor of E-Government, Broadband in the schools, Virtual Campus (Universities) and chair of APDDC (Associação Portuguesa para o Desenvolvimento e Comunicação).
With his entrepreneurship, the broadband in the schools has been a reality and brought with it the project "a laptop per child".  Teaching and learning in the Portuguese schools has become  completely different.

As an innovative educator since the 90's it was a joy to share my dreams and projects with my students: practising formal learning and  informal learning with his program Plano Tecnológico: the wireless in schools and a lap per child
The University of Porto and the Associação Comercial do Porto are now distinguish Diogo Vasconcelos giving the name of the great creative and entrepreneur to the ACP prize - Technology Export and ACP - Applied Research.

Homenageia-se "o gestor portuense ontem falecido e o trabalho que desenvolveu na promoção do espírito empreendedor na sociedade portuguesa e criação de condições para uma maior cooperação entre universidades e indústrias no capítulo da inovação".
