House of Dragon prequel ? For sure ! Here we are again !

Of course you do remember my post The House of The Dragon sequel. So Westeros is back. And it's very blond. 

HBO released the first images from its highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon.

Now coming to some really amazing news that we would seriously like to share with students as it will give them some more shivers and will make them jump with joy and happiness.

The series, based on author George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood, follows the the Targaryen family 300 years before the events of the original series. And in the first glimpse of the new series, the relatives of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) are sporting the mother of dragon's white-blond hair.

“House of the Dragon has been in development for several years (though the title has changed a couple of times during that process),” Martin wrote on his blog in response to news of the series pickup. 

“It was actually the first concept I pitched to HBO when we started talking about a successor show, way back in the summer of 2016.”

House of Dragon recently began production and is set to debut in 2022. The three images show five of the series' characters standing stoically on a beach (maybe the shores of Dragonstone, the longtime seat of Targaryen power) clad in Westeros' best finery.

The second image shows Olivia Cooke and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower and his daughter Alicent Hightower.

Otto is the Hand of the King to the current ruler of Westeros, King Viserys Targaryen.

"Ser Otto loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm," according to HBO's character description. "As the Hand sees it, the greatest threat to the realm is the king's brother, Daemon, and his position as heir to the throne."

Alicent is described by HBO as "the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms." She was raised in the Red Keep, in King's Landing, "close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen."

In the final image, Steve Toussaint is pictured as Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka "The Sea Snake." 

He's the heir to a house of Valyrian blood as old as the Targaryens, and is "the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros. Lord Corlys built his house into a powerful seat that is even richer than the Lannisters and that claims the largest navy in the world."

The real hints for fans eager for the new series are in the character descriptions HBO provided along with the three images in a news release. 

The show will debut on HBO and on its streaming platform HBO Max in 2022. Let's be patient.

But you can show the spinoff to your students. They will be glad! These images provide glimpses of the cast, which features ‘The Crown’s Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint and more.

Education: 

A play and a prequel? A true sequel? Yes. Two interesting themes to include into your lessons - remote learning or in-person lessons.

As I wrote, a Narrative text lets us know something. It tells us what happened. It tells us a story. Our students love to hear narrations. And Game of Thrones was a huge success among young people. Among teachers as well.

Movies, TV and streaming series based on children and teen books are an attractive and enjoyable digital resources to motivate students to read at school or on remote learning.

So, we can motivate young readers, presenting literary books trough movies, actually, streaming series or TV series due the Covid-19 pandemic.

Whatever we take from this series, everything is just extremely fantastic and fabulous. Don't you think?

The bestselling inspired the popular HBO streaming saga Game of Thrones. And it was  the HBO series that inspired students to read the books. Movies or series offer teachers and students a nice captivating push! 

Some teen literature is difficult for the 'screen-generation' to read. Movies or TV series adaptation can help students to understand better those books, to appreciate and enjoy the book by having a different approach before... or after.

They strain to hear the latest news about what happens over the week and they rush to watch the latest TV or streaming series that promise a good story! We know that! So, get ready!

My students love toa talk about love and to have a different lesson at Valentine's Day, February 14th! So, I always prepare something new to my class on this day.

I'm sure that your students love too talk about Valentine's Day in the classroom! 

I would like to share some suggestions about a lovely short film that you can explore into your lessons at Valentine's Day.

But first, let's talk about Oscar nominees. Paperman is one of the 10 animated shorts being considered for an Oscar at the next Academy Awards.

• Is It Destiny?

Every day we must introduce something captivating in our lessons, even we are teaching important skills in serious curriculum. Passion is what will make our students enter in the classroom waiting for something special in the middle of a lesson every day. 

They will really realize that teachers love what they do, that we think about them when we are preparing a lesson for the next day. 

Keep your students passionnate in your lessons, always.

So! It's Valentine's Day! Captivate the students with Paperman at the begining of your lesson.

But first just got an idea: buy some of those funny postcards Valentine's Day, write something nice about every student and leave them on the tables before students enter in the classroom. Just an idea!

• Activities:

Start the lesson asking them to use their smartphonesb and search the link that will share with the short film Paperman on YouTube. 

Each student will watch the entire six-and-a-half-minutes  video just for fun. 

Surprise is essential to keep students wired !

Keep an eye at their reactions, began a word wall. Word walls offer readily available support to readers and writers, and let you teach skills in a meaningful context. 

At the end, let's the students free to discuss with you and classmates. Every time, they express new words, ask to join write them on the word wall.

Valentine’s favorite words are just right for a word wall. 

Share with students the word wall and let them suggest other words they associate with Paperman or Valentine’s Day.

Time for critical thinking: 

Ask your students:

• How did the film make them feel?

• What adjectives would they use to describe the film?

• Does the film have a message?

Ask the students to watch the film again (big screen on computer), They should down information using some points:

• Locations

• Characters

• Actions

• Emoctions

• Message

• Music

Creative writing:

Ask students to write the story of the film using narrative tenses and rich adjectives to describe the chracters and their emotions throughout the film.

• Ask students to create the possible subtitles to introduce on Paperman.

Music:

• Finally, let students create a music short list to introduce on Paperman.

These are just a few ideas on how you can spread the love in your lesson. There are many more great ideas. 

I would love to hear how your students reacted to Paperman and how much they matter to you whether on Valentine's Day or any other day of the school year.

• Some thoughts:

Paperman became one of my favorite short animated film. So poetic!

We are transported to this fantastic world, a world that we almost believe to existed at some point in time.

"Each stroke of the bow on a violin, each airy blow of the brass, each key struck on the piano corresponds to an equally simple yet beautiful action on screen."

It’s that sense of believability that makes this film so magical. It plays on those deep insecurities that we all have when it comes to love: 

What if I miss out on the woman of my dreams? Will I ever find her again? It’s a classic story that’s been told hundreds, if not thousands, of times – but in the case of Paperman, fate fights back and gives our protagonist one more chance.

"Like its main character, Paperman is a genuine expression of happiness and perseverance that will lift your spirits and merit an immediate follow up viewing. It’s proof that in this day and age, where big-budget blockbusters dominate the silver screen landscape, there’s still room for animated shorts to find a widespread audience. Paperman is a sensational work of art, one that brings a refreshing twist to a conventional story."
