"Books, to the reading child, are so much more than books -they are dreams and knowledge, they are a future, and a past."
Esther Meynell (1940
Tomorrow, the 14 February we are celebrating International Book Giving Day. It's a day dedicated to getting new, used and borrowed books in the hands of as many children as possible.
Education:
Even as the world comes together on a day set aside to celebrate love, what better way to express your love than to give a book.

Do you know a better activity than teach your students to give a book to other children young people who can not buy a book or reach a public library?
A key part of this commitment is promoting the importance of giving for pleasure.
Teachers and school librarians, even parents, must support children to enjoy giving a book and remembering that there are many children in the world who love reading and can not get a wide range of good quality literature.

Teaching to share is a kind value that we must not ignore every moment when we are teaching. And International Book Giving Day is a special time to motivate students to do it.
How can students celebrate this special day?
- Give a Book to a Friend or Relative.
Celebrate International Book Giving Day by giving a child a new, used or borrowed book.
- Leave a Book in a Waiting Room, Lobby or Garden
Choose a waiting room where kids are stuck waiting and there are few to no good books available. Purchase a good book, and deposit the book covertly or overtly in a waiting room of their choice. The goal here is to spread the love of reading to kids, so choose a fun book, nothing controversial.
- Donate a Book
Wrap up a box of children’s books that kids have outgrown and get them in the hands of children who could really use a book or two.
Donate books to local library, children’s hospital, or shelter. Alternatively, donate books to an organization working national or internationally to get books in the hands of kids.
Levels: All levels (Primary education to Secondary Education).
Curricula: Cross-curricula activity.
The now increasingly popular trend saw the celebration of 'Book Giving Day' across more than 30 countries last year.
People have been pro-actively promoting their participation across social media, sharing pictures and updates from their activities with the hashtag #GiveABook.
Ask your students up-to 13-14 to promoting their activity on Twitter or Facebook school pages.
