So, Google joined this Canadian rock band Arcade Fire to conceptualize an interactive video that shows some of the potentialities of the new "markup" language.

The Wilderness Downtown choreographed windows, interactive flocking, custom rendered maps, real-time compositing, procedural drawing, 3D canvas rendering... this Chrome Experiment has them all.

The Wilderness Downtown is an interactive interpretation of Arcade Fire's song We Used To Wait and was built entirely with the latest open web technologies, including HTML5 video, audio, and canvas.

The Wilderness Downtown, an interactive film by Chris Milk, is part of the new album of Arcade Fire.

It demands our interaction using Google Maps and Street View to include these resources in the video images from the town where we are or live!

Google Maps API for fetching dynamic routes to destination and checking Street View content at points along the route.

On the website, we must enter the address of the town where we grew up and... it's awesome! 

I did the experience and it is marvellous! I just loved it!

Listening the song that goes on in our city, following several browser windows 3D that open and close at the music rythm. At the end of the interactive video, an ecological message! Trees for everywhere! Wow! It's amazing!

Street detection for animated trees composited dynamically in place over Street View.

A postcard is created by an analog signal: you! This site takes that postcard and converts it to digital. The Wilderness Machine brings it back to analog. 

Look for it on tour with the band in North America. If you're lucky enough to get someone's postcard from it, plant it. A tree will grow out of it.

Education:

Awesome tool to include into Geo-studies and Music school curricula! Your students will be so surprised! And they will enjoy it so much! 

On Arcade Fire website, they must enter the address of their home town... and there they are! 

Listening the song that goes on in their city, students will explore it, following several browser windows 3D that open and close at the music rhythm.

And why include it into Music curriculum (in and around) indie rock? Of course! So trendy!

Music curriculum must be captivating! I am sure that your students will be so happy to study Music by a indie rock group and technology.

It could be a enriched cross-curricular project. Think about it.

Level: Elementary and Secondary Education (up-to 10)

Oh! What a fantastic lesson! Using mobile devices (iPad or smartphone) in the classroom, of course!

The MEDEA Secretariat announced the 9 finalists for the annual MEDEA awards on 4th October.

The finalists are (in alphabetical order): BBC News School Report by BBC (UK), Bla Bla Bla edemocracy e minori by Civil Life Lab (Italy), Et si c'était toi by Lycée Technique du Centre (Luxembourg), Evolution of life by CNDP (France), Level 7 by Careersbox (UK), Monkey Labs by Die Keure/Larian Studios (Belgium), Pocket Anatomy by eMedia Interactive (Ireland), Theorem of Fire by Nafta Films (Estonia) and The Classroom by Cornerhouse (UK).

Once again, I have been invited by Ms. Nikki Cortoos to being a judge at MEDEA Awards 2010, as I have been in 2009. I am honored.

As Teacher Assessor specialized by the University of Evora  and Catholic University of Portugal - UCP/Biotechnology, I committed myself through a careful work of analysis in all the areas of the evaluation. 

Long hours, testing, verifying the several entries and checking all the items of the evaluation  process.

It is an expertise work that we give unambiguous, with consistency, independence and extreme relief.

"This year the competition attracted 140 entries from 31 countries, a very high number of entries. For the first time, those entering could chose between submitting their entry as a production made by a professional company or semi-professional production unit or as one made by teachers, students, learners, parents, professors, individual or organisational representatives in primary education, secondary education, higher education, adult education, vocational education and/or training."

The 9 finalists of "MEDEA Awards 2010" had been announced by MEDEA Secretariat, on 4th October 2010. You can see the list in the show case here. 

"Entries this year included terrific examples of how students and their teachers are using media to enhance their own media literacy skills while creating learning resources that can have significant social impact. Animations and cartoons made by younger children demonstrated that children are never too young to begin creating their own media-based learning materials."

The finalists were chosen by a jury made up of 74 education and media experts from 26 countries who evaluated the MEDEA entries between August and September. 

The overall winner will be announced during the "MEDEA Awards Ceremony" that takes place on Thursday 25 November on the first day of Media & Learning Conference in Brussels.

This year, I could accept the invitation to participate in the cerimony! It will be a joy to share those moments and, at the same time, to attend the Media & Learning Conference for the second year.

Today, it is World Music Day 2011. The weather is amazingly summery. It's possible I go-out for a walk in the city, finding some good moments of music. Perhaps at Casa da Música.
