Disney+’s presented Ewan McGregor-starring spin-off, Obi-Wan Kenobi, last 27 May 2022Obi-Wan Kenobi targeting viewers who grew up with the prequels, taking the franchise ever further away from the original trilogy.

Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi watches over young Luke Skywalker and evades the Empire's elite Jedi hunters during his exile on the desert planet Tatooine.

  • What's new in the narrative?

The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Episode III “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat: the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

This highly anticipated Disney+ show stars McGregor, back after 17 years in his beloved role as Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi. The show is set to explain how he came to be living in exile on the planet Tatooine, watching over a young Luke Skywalker.

Now Christensen is returning to battle Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan, who in the events of the series is holed up on Tatooine in a cave, masquerading as Ben Kenobi (which, when you think of it, is not the most spectacular pseudonym) and keeping one eye out for the safety of a preteen Luke Skywalker. It appears Vader has sent various baddies out into space to try to track him down, namely Rupert Friend’s Grand Inquisitor (a sort-of Imperial SS-type) and his red lightsaber-wielding minion, Reva aka 'Third Sister’ Inquisitor.

After the announcement, Ewan McGregor – who reprises his role from the prequel trilogy of the late 90s and early 00s – explained who this show is being made for.

“People in their late teens or early 20s, those people who were kids who we made those films for, they loved them,” he told Forbes. “To them, they’re their Star Wars films, you know? For us, it was the original films of the 70s, but for them, it was our films were their Star Wars. So to step back into his shoes again now and do a series, a whole series about Obi-Wan Kenobi for those fans, it just makes me really happy."

Fans of the original Star Wars trilogy, your time is up!  Remember when you knew that the one true set of works based in a galaxy far, far away were the ones about Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo?

A boy, a princess... no. Not anymore.  Luke Skywalker? Yes! But so different...

Over the years I've used to teach several topics, but my favorite is to use Star Wars to teach mythology and science fiction (the narrative) in Literature lessons.

Finally, time passes on, another classes, different young adolescents, but always Star Wars fans. In 2015, we watched Return of the Jedi studying historical connections to be made studying literature novels.

May 27 was  huge success! All fans watched Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney +.

So, my dear fans/ students we will continue the study of science-fiction in Literature lessons. It will be awesome. Every week a new episode to discuss and constructing a new narrative.

Disney+ released this Tuesday, the 31st, an unprecedented poster for its new series inspired by the Star Wars universe, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, where we can see child actress Vivien Lyra Blair in the costumes of Princess Leia younger.

  • Some thoughts:

published Let's Talk Star Wars saga ! until the introduction of Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi

I hope you had new ideas to include Star Wars into your school curricula. Perhaps you will find among your students the sons or grandsons (who knows?) of the first generation of the sequel (1977) and they are fans as well.

Oh! Your are lucky to teach a new generation of light saber-wielding super fans! What an excitement to you as teachers and to them (as students) find an 'old' fan!

It will be easy to follow the new sequel, not at the movies as their parents did but streaming. The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi are now streaming on Disney+, with new episodes on Wednesdays.

(...)
And we can tell, but Heaven, at last
May answer all my thousand prayers
And bid the future pay the past
With joy for anguish, smiles for tears.

Buffalo, New York. Laguna Woods, California. Uvalde, Texas. In little more than a week, three more places have been added to a uniquely American geography of terror and grief.

The shooting at Columbine High School, Littleton, Colorado, 20 April 1999, 12 students and one teacher deadly shot, was considered at the time the most important tragedy in the United States.

April 20, 1999 was a sunny day in the quiet suburb of Littleton, Colorado. It was three days after prom, and the students at Columbine High School were shaking off the revelry and eager to wind down their last few weeks of school before summer.

Every year, Columbine celebrates the lives of victims by doing a 'day of service' where students volunteer throughout the community.

In 14 December 2012, the Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Newtown, Connecticut suffered a shooting, near Christmas season, and killed 26 people. Twenty of the victims were children between six and seven years old, and six were adult staff members. The massacre was the deadliest mass shooting at an Elementary School in U.S. history.

Christmas in Sandy Hook was different than Christmas just about anywhere else in 2012. It wasn’t a celebration of family, joy and gifts but a solemn day of remembrance.

We thought, naively, that things could change after Sandy Hook Elementary School, on December 14th, 2012, with the mass murder of literally 20 young children, and 6 teachers, could impact even the coldest.

Despite the tears, heartbreak, fear, anger, and demand for change from large chunks of the American population. No changes at all.

Some days ago, ten years after Sandy Hook Elementary School, the 24 May 2022, another massacre at Robb Elementary School. 19 kids (8-11 years-old) and 2 teachers were shot dead in their classrooms, having their lessons. One day before the Summer holidays. No!!

The sadness and anger are crushing all over U.S. and abroad. I'm a teacher, a mother. I'm shocked! My heart is broken. Not again!!

I have no words, I am devastated, absolutely devastated. I have no words. But I feel angry.

"I'm Angry and Sad and Scared and I Know Nothing is Going to Change!"

💜Note:

As a teacher, I believe parents, families, classmates, teachers of Robb Elementary School, in Uvalde, must keep their privacy.

As a pedagogue and a mother, I believe in values. So I decided not to publish the photos of the students shot dead at the three schools: Columbine Elementary School, Sandy Hook Elementary School and now Robb Elementary School for respect to their privacy and their parents. They are just kids.

Schools : Europe Day : "The Future is now !"

© European Union

Europe Day, held on 9 May every year, celebrates peace and unity in the European Union. To mark Europe Day 2022, a variety of activities and events for all ages will take place throughout Europe.

On this day, it is our collective duty to revitalize the European dream and re-invigorate European integration. COVID-19 has proven to us however that to protect the lives and health of citizens and preserve our economy, the European Union must take robust actions, proportionate to the dangers threatening us.

Europe Day is a day celebrating “Peace and Unity in Europe”, in commemoration of the Schuman Declaration of 9 May 1950.

This year more than ever, it is fundamental the importance of working for peace in Europe, as we highlight our unity and solidarity with Ukraine.

  • Theme:

Europe Day 2022 is titled "The Future is now!"

European Year of Youth 2022

This year, in the context of the European Year of Youth, the focus is put on young people’s voices for a better future. Find out what is happening near you and take part in the different activities to learn more about the EU and how it works.

Europe Day commemorates the date French foreign minister at the time Robert Schuman presented the Schuman Declaration, on 9 May 1950. 72 years ago.

Schumann Declaration 1950

Schuman put forward the idea of a political cooperation in Europe to establish lasting peace between the European nations. This proposal gave rise to the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community, which is now considered the foundation of the European Union, as we know it today.

Education:

Celebrate Europe Day !

Lots of activities and events are taking place around the EU Member States and all European teachers and students are is more than welcome to participate!

From concerts, to light shows to lively discussions, the European Parliament and European Commission are organising events around the EU. You can find out what is happening in each country by clicking on them in the interactive map.

Teachers and schools can prepare an interesting cross-curricular Europe Day

Propose your students some activities:

Theme: Europe Day 2022 is titled "The Future is now!"

  • Let the students explore all the links about European Union to be well informed about it.
  • Ask for a debate about the "pros & cons" to be a member of the EU or to become a new member of the EU.
  • Why Ukraine wants to become a member of the EU ? Let students talk about the war in Europe. They watch everyday the news, on TV or read on the social networks they prefer. The images are terrible. They fear the war. And they want to share ideas with teachers and schoolmates.
  • Invite them to make a Peace Wall on the school library: photos, news, drawings, letters to young people of Ukraine, an open letter to leaders of both countries involved in the conflict.

Students must practice critical thinking about the subject that is not consensual nowadays when Europe is experiencing a severe  political crisis due the war.

Ukrainian children ant teens are affected by fear, running out their country with their moms or grandmothers to other European countries.

Perhaps your school received some Ukrainian young students and they are in your class. Invite them to teach some words in their mother language to you and your students.

Send a postcard to a friend or your family. Someone special!

https://www.eesc.europa.eu/en/agenda/

Postcards are a great way to share thoughts and wishes with friends and family! Why not to young Ukrainians who have been received in your country!

Celebrate Europe Day with us by sending a real postcard to someone special!
