International Girls in ICT Day, is an initiative backed by all ITU Member States in ITU Plenipotentiary Resolution 70 (Rev. Busan, 2014). It aims to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider car​eers in the growing field of ICTs, enabling both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the ICT sector. 

International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated on the 4th Thursday in April every year.​​​​​

International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated every year with the theme “Expand Horizons, Change Attitudes,” to encourage young women and girls to discover the exciting world of opportunities in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

EU Thematic call for women in ICT pledges: Digital skills for all – developing digital skills to enable all citizens to be active in our digital society Digital skills for the labour force – developing digital skills for the digital economy, e.g. upskilling and reskilling workers, jobseekers; actions on career advice and guidance More and better trained ICT professionals in Europe – developing high level digital skills for ICT professionals in all industry sectors Digital skills in education – transforming teaching and learning of digital skills in a lifelong learning perspective, including the training of teachers

Organisers and schools of course should feel free to create their own program for their event and can also look at past Girls in ICT Day events​ to get inspiration. The ITU Secretary General and Andrus Ansip, Vice-President for the Digital Single Market invite Academia to organize events attracting as many girls and young women as possible. 

Ministries of ICT, Education, Labour, Youth, National ICT Regulatory Authorities, ICT companies, academic institutions, relevant UN agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders are all encouraged to join the global effort and ​​celebrate International Girls in ICT Day. ​​

Education:

Schools will be free to create their own program for their event and can also look at past Girls in ICT Day events​ to get inspiration.

However there is a good activity: Workshops.

Workshops are an excellent activity to give girls a taste of what you can actually do with technology. In order to engage girls' interest, it is crucial that they get to not only hear about technology, but also do it. 

Girls will see for themselves that you don't need to be a math wizard in order to code or a science expert to programme a robot.

In a workshop, girls will discover that technology is all about creativity, collaboration and, most importantly, a lot of fun!

Deciding on a workshop activity depends greatly on girls' ages and their previous experience with ICTs. 

Try to find the right balance by choosing activities that are not too difficult but challenging enough to keep the girls interested and motivated. Encourage them to have fun, work in pairs or small groups and not be afraid to make mistakes!

Today April 3 is Good Friday. Two days from Easter Sunday. Easter is the most important Christian religious holiday and widely regarded as the second most popular holiday in general after Christmas season.

The students and teachers got Easter school break in the most countries in Europe and elsewhere.

Easter 2015 is the warmest Easter we got the last two years. It will be wonderful for those kids and families who are enjoying the traditional host of Easter egg hunts outdoor.

For those we don't celebrate egg hunts, they get some holiday to travel or just to relax near the beach.

My case, because I live in a town where we have the Atlantic ocean and a beautiful river.

The students who stay in town with their parents, they have good choices to have fun and learn a bit as well.

Museums, public libraries, nature parks, workshops, music, science and so much more are offering different activities. Just enjoy!

Festival das Artes: férias culturais?

O 4º Festival das Artes tem lugar em Coimbra (Portugal) e decorre de 13 a 29 Julho 2012. Conta com trinta e cinco eventos, doze concertos, cinco exposições e muitos outras propostas de artes.

O Festival divide-se por vários espaços destacando-se o anfiteatro da Colina de Camões que medeia a traça contemporânea do edifício "Os Quatro Elementos", de Gonçalo Byrne, e a mata centenária da Quinta das Lágrimas, "entretecendo um diálogo entre a quinhentista Fonte das Lágrimas, a Fonte dos Amores (século XIV), o Jardim Romântico de oitocentos e o Jardim Medieval."

Este ano o tema é "Viagens", em parte motivado pelo facto de se cumprirem 440 anos sobre a edição de  "Os Lusíadas" de Luís Vaz de Camões, o poema épico que fala das viagens dos Portugueses na História e em concreto até à Índia.

Os eventos estão distribuídos por cinco ciclos: Música, Cinema, Artes Plásticas, Conferências, Artes de Palco, Gastronomia e Serviço Educativo.

Educação:

Sabe como é interessante e enriquecedor orientar os jovens para actividades culturais em tempo de férias escolares. 

Festival de Artes 2012 é uma iniciativa no âmbito da actividade cultural que procura dar oportunidade de expressão, desenvolver o sentido crítico, e o gosto pelas artes.

Através deste projecto intergeracional, é possível identificar e promover gostos e experiências que  levam ao público várias expressões estéticas e lúdicas.

Diferentes propostas de actividades capazes de mobilizar os jovens, suas famílias ou associações educativas, numa iniciativa onde acontecem momentos de formação, convívio, artes, e lazer. 

Actividades dinâmicas de valoração pessoal e cultural que proporcionam aos jovens a oportunidade para experienciar ou desenvolver valores. 

Então este é um possível momento que junta gerações no Ano Europeu de Envelhecimento Activo e da Solidariedade entre Gerações, numa troca de experiências e aprendizagens entre as várias gerações.

Nada melhor do que rumar até Coimbra e inscrever os jovens e os menos jovens nas várias actividades que o Serviço Educativo propõe.

O Festival das Artes estreia-se em 2012 na área mobile com uma aplicação (app) que permite consultar a programação do festival em qualquer momento e em qualquer lugar. A aplicação (app) desenvolvida pela empresa Bluetrend, está já disponível a para todo o tipo de telefones iPhone e Android. 

4th Festival das Artes (Coimbra, Portugal) will take place 14-28 July 2012.

Summer nights in Coimbra are filled with the sounds of classical music. And, during the days, art exhibitions, cooking classes, historical lectures and interesting conferences can be found around the city. Festival das Artes is a celebration of culture for people of all ages. This year’s event runs from 13 to 29 July.

For 2012, the theme of this year’s festival is "Travels". According to Festival Chairman José Miguel Judice, the theme, in part, is motivated by the 440-year-old great literary work of Luís Camões "Os Lusíadas". 

The festival is based primarily in the Gardens at the Hotel Quinta das Lágrimas, but many events take place in cultural venues around the city.
