April rundown of the most-read posts

Mother's Day Google doodle

May began with Mother's Day in Portugal, first Sunday. Mother's Day is celebrated  on different days in many countries of the world, yet most commonly on Sunday in March, April, or May.

You too, my mother, read my rhymes
For love of unforgotten times,
And you may chance to hear once more
The little feet along the floor.

Robert Louis Stevenson, To My Mother

This rundown of the most-read posts of April is late because I have been busy again. No, not in Brussels this time.

My usual readers know that I am blogging when I have some free time. Work comes first. This time, I have been busy to write two academic articles to participate at different conferences.

I am very happy because both have been accepted.

So, International Children's Book Day was the most read post of the last month. But by mistake, I have joined it at March rundown of the most-read posts.
Let's talk about games : Healthy Nutrition at school is the second most-read post of April.

NV Runners is a pedagogical game for iPad and iPhone and online. It has been created by a Portuguese enterprise Nutri Ventures.

Nutri Ventures is the first children's entertainment brand in the world that promotes Healthy Eating Habbits.

NV Runners is a game that help students to have healthy eating habits by becoming one of the Nutri Ventures heroes!

Theo, Lena, Ben and Nina need help to find Alex Grand’s plans to create an evil Guga. But it won’t be easy! Students need to find their way around Grandland, collect several Nutri-Powers to fight the G-Squads and take part in some awesome Boss Battles.

As we cab see, there are good pedagogical and captivating digital resources that will improve the healthy life and style of young people.
Educators can not ignored interesting video games that can be introduced in school lessons. Digital educational resources are one of the best tools in our days in school education.

Children and young students have good digital skills and they must use them in the classroom, developing learning activities as this one for example. Students love games and they learn trought games. And they are learning with games!

April 22nd ! Earth Day 2013! After Earth Hour 2013, Earth Day is the most important day to the Planet!

Earth Day is a special day for schools! All over the world, teachers and students work on fantastic projects to commit to actions that go beyond the planet. More than 100 million schoolchildren around the world learn about the importance of clean air and water and about climate change.

Earth Day 2013's theme was "The Face of Climate Change" to highlight growing impact on individuals through interactive digital campaign.

“Many people think climate change is a remote problem, but the fact is that it’s already impacting real people, animals, and beloved places all over the world, and these Faces of Climate Change are multiplying every day,“ said Kathleen Rogers, president of Earth Day Network. “Fortunately, other Faces of Climate Change are also multiplying every day: those stepping up to do something about it. For Earth Day 2013, we’ll bring our generation’s biggest environmental challenge down to size – the size of an individual faced with the consequences.”

Education:

School time is a wonderful space to teach and share environmental values, elevating the importance of environmental issues into school curricula.

Earth Day Network received some great student #faceofclimate photos from places as far-flung as Taiwan, Iran, Costa Rica, Portugal nd the USA.

The Face of Climate Change Photo Mosaic is a fantastic wall with people sharing their stories on the impact of climate change.

Let's continue inspiring our students, this time for Earth Day 2013 by elevating the importance of environmental issues around the world.

"If you have any sense of wonder or faith in humanity, you would have to agree that Earth Day is an extraordinary event. It combines the functions of educator, movement builder and the largest public service project in the world. More than one billion people from almost every single country on earth will take an action in service to our planet."

And what about Serious Game Conference or Conférence Le Jeux Sérieux?

Revue d’Intelligence Artificielle (RIA), volume 25, n°2 2011.

April 25, Girls in ICT Day! It is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of every April and it is an initiative started by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) that aims to empower and encourage girls and young women to consider careers in the sector of technology.

The purpose of the day is to inspire action and identify workable solutions at the European and global level that would address the issue of the female leaking pipeline in ICT training and careers.

This year the European Commission, the European Parliament and the ITU were joining forces to ensure the maximum visibility for advancing the cause of getting more women into technology.

The results of the session had feed back to Futurium and the participants had the opportunity to further shape their Futures online.

This interactive brainstorming event was organised by the Digital Futures Taskforce, the European Commission and the International Telecoms Union to celebrate the International Girls in ICT Day to get every Girl Digital.
Around 80 Belgium girls met in Brussels to imagine life in 2050The girls imagined they woke up on 25 April 2050, in a digital world and saw the news.

The girls worked in groups and came up with and present a news bulletin. They identified necessary milestones from this day to 2050 to make their news a reality.
A discussion of the European-level agenda for advancing the cause of "Women in ICT" during the parliamentary hearing had two angles:

  • Professional women in ICT careers
  • ICT skills for ICT jobs.

Girls in ICT Day is a way to raise visibility and build widespread support for women in ICT careers on a  local, national, and global scale. And if you are doing something worthy at your level, Digital Agenda would like to know!

Dance is a powerful expression.
It speaks to earth and heaven.
It speaks of our joy, our fear and our wishes.
Dance speaks of the intangible, yet reveals the state of mind of a person and
the temperaments and characters of a people.(...)

Lin Hwai-min, message
Founder/Artistic Director, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan

On April 29, 2013 International Dance Day, also known as World Dance Day, is celebrated every year through promotion by the International Dance Council (CID).

The day was introduced in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute

Every year a message from a well-known dance personality is circulated throughout the world.

In 2013, ITI organized the celebration of the 31th Anniversary of International Dance Day on April, 25th at UNESCO in Paris, honoring one of the most talented dance artists of our time, the Taiwanese choreographer LIN Hwai-min.

Invited by the International Theatre Institute ITI, Lin Hwai-min, founder and artistic director of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, wrote the "2013 International Dance Day message".

Education:

Dance is a fun and fresh integrative part in School Education. School education without Arts (Music, Dance, Theater) will have very poor curricula. Young students will have an incomplete education.
I debate often on my blog the importance of Arts in school school education! Having a master degree in Music, I know how enjoyable is my life with my education in Arts.
My usual readers know that blogging is my free contribution to inspire new teachers, when I have the time between work and scientific writing.

I really hope that you will enjoy every pedagogical proposal published in April and you will discover some new pedagogical ideas to introduce in your lessons.

I thank you very much to all the colleagues from around the world that kindly read my blog.
