Happy Easter : Reading children's books

Today, April 14 isGood Friday. Two days from Easter. Easter is the most important Christian religious holiday and widely regarded as the second most popular holiday in general after Christmas.

Students and teachers got Easter school break in European countries and elsewhere.

Time is wonderful for those kids and families who will enjoy the traditional host of Easter egg hunts outdoor across the world next Sunday.

And why not to read some lovely children's books? Here some suggestions in three different languages:

Home For a Bunny/ Little Golden
Margaret Wise Brown
illustrations: Garth Williams

Generations of children have followed this furry, lovable bunny on his springtime journey to find a home.

A family favorite since 1956, Margaret Wise Brown's simple yet playful tale is perfectly complemented by Garth Williams's exquisite artwork-and is now back in print as a Little Golden Book Classic.

Starring the ever-popular Mouse, this is a colorful and fun addition to a little one's Easter basket.

The Easter Bunny That Overslept
Priscilla Friedrich

Having slept past Easter, the Easter bunny tries to distribute his eggs on Mother's Day, the Fourth of July, and Halloween, but no one is interested. At Christmas time it is Santa who gets him back on track.

Mother's Day is celebrated in different days in many countries, yet most commonly in March, April, or May.

Celebrations of mothers and motherhood occur throughout the world; many of these can be traced back to ancient festivals, like the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration.*

In Portugal is celebrated first Sunday in May. So today, for Portuguese Mothers is the day!

Gémeo Luís. original work

A beautiful book honoring Mother's Day by Portuguese writer Eugénio Roda (thematic aphorisms) and Portuguese illustrator Gémeo Luís, selected to represent the Portuguese illustratrors at Chidren's Book Bologna Fair (Italy 2012).

MinhaMãe, My Mother is published in eight languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, Deutsch, Dutch, Greek. A different colour for each language.

A lovely suggestion for Mother's Day?

Children's books : What is that? Easter books !

Margaret Wise Brown
illustrated by Leonard Weisgard

Once there was a little bunny. He was all alone. One day he found an egg. He could hear something moving inside the egg. What was it?

The tale of a bunny's discovery of a mysterious egg (...)
a Big Golden Book beloved by generations, is available for the first time in the Little Golden Book line, with its original illustrations by Caldecott Medalist Leonard Weisgard.

The Golden Egg Book is a classical about a bunny and a little duck that is about to hatch! The book tells the story of a little bunny who is all alone, until one day he comes across an egg.

I especially like how it has rich full page vintage illustrations. You can read some pages online with your kid here

Os Ovos Misteriosos
Luisa Ducla Soares
ilustração : Manuela Bacelar
Afrontamento, 1994

Three chidren's books, three languages! English, Portuguese and French.
