Mary Poppins Returns

Rob Marshall, 2018

Ya! Mary Poppins is back! Mary Poppins Returns53 years after Julie Andrews glided by parrot-handled umbrella onto our screens as the magical nanny, here is everything we know about the much-anticipated reboot, Mary Poppins Returns.

Decades after her original visit, the magical nanny returns to help the Banks siblings and Michael's children through a difficult time in their lives.

Mary Poppins Returns

Rob Marshall, 2018

Mary Poppins's return to Cherry Tree Lane is to bring some joy to Michael Banks's family, after they suffer a personal loss. Fast-forwarding to 1935 (the original was set in 1910), the nanny, along with her friend Jack, is back to bring the family just the spoonful of sugar that they need.

Following Julie Andrews to take the title role is Emily Blunt, and she is the one we'd want to do it.

The trailer shows that the sequel will feature a number of nods to the classic - from flying kites to animated penguins, a mirror reflection with a mind of its own and some stepping in time.

Mary Poppins Returns is a 2018 American musical fantasy film directed by Rob Marshall, with a screenplay written by David Magee and a story by Magee, Marshall and John DeLuca. Based on the book series of the same name by P. L. Travers.

Have yourself a Very Merry Christmas Season, brightly colored with love, peace and light.

Wishing everyone a Bright Holiday Season! And a special hug to all the children in the world.

I'm off to continue celebrating Christmas at home with my family.

One may be surprised that a movie can be built on no antagonist. Even so, it is still highly entertaining and enjoyable, with values and meanings that are by no means less than its predecessors.

Kiki's Delivered Service
Takashi Shimizu,2014

A live-action film adaptation with direction by Takashi Shimizu was also published in 2014.
Disney released an English language version in 1998. The look of the new live-action film is heavily influenced by Miyazaki’s designs and storytelling.

Directed by Takashi Shimizu, “Kiki” is portrayed by actress Shoshiba Fuka; Kotobuki Minako is the voice of Kiki’s  black cat, Jiji.
The movie is set in the seaside town Koriko which the main character Kiki played by actress Fuka Koshiba chooses as her training location; the movie describes the life and delivery work of a little girl. The figure of the black cat Jiji, voiced acted by Minako Kotobuki, was also unveiled for the first time.

Hayao Miyazaki, 1989

The inspiration for both Miyazaki’s and Shimizu’s features came from Eiko Kadono’s 1985 children’s novel of the same title.

Following the success of the anime, Kadono wrote five more volumes from 1993-2009, charting the heroine’s passage into womanhood.

The screenplay by Shimizu and Satoko Okudera stitches together new plots from Kadono’s later books (mostly from the second volume, “Kiki and Her New Magic”), and it retains the formless, episodic nature of the author’s writing.
