What a moment of the year! Ah, Spring! The season of sun and flowers. And new  leaves on the trees ! Walking on nature, sunny days, admiring the new season and its beauty, And a Pink Moon?! Wow!

Today, 12 April, we have the Pink Moon. As the Pink Moon rises in the night sky this weekend, reaching its peak brilliance at 1:22 am, it is set to bring more than just celestial beauty.

The Pink Moon 2025 will light up the skies this night on April 12, 2025, marking the first full moon of pring. This lunar event, which will occur at 8:22 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), is a spectacle not to be missed. While the name “Pink Moon” suggests a pink hue, the moon will appear as a regular full moon in the sky.

Why It’s Called the Pink Moon ?

Despite its name, the Pink Moon will not be tinged rose. Its title is derived from the seasonal bloom of the phlox flower, a symbol of renewal and growth. Other traditional names include the Sprouting Grass Moon, Egg Moon, and Fish Moon, each pointing to fertility, abundance and new beginnings.

Why is April the pink moon?

The full moon earned the name “Pink Moon” due to its timing with the blooming of early spring wildflowers.

How often is a pink moon?

A full moon occurs once a month, and the one that appears in April is traditionally called the Pink Moon.

Sky-gazers may notice April's full moon looks smaller than usual this month, and despite its “pink moon” namesake, the orb will have a white-golden hue.

April’s micromoon will be the smallest of the three micromoons in 2025, with the next one occurring in May, according to EarthSky.

For the best view of this micromoon, weather conditions allowing, NASA recommends using a pair of binoculars or a telescope and finding a spot with minimal light pollution.
