World Book and Copyright Day is a celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading. Each year, on 23 April, celebrations take place all over the world to recognize the scope of books - a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures.
Google Doodle St George's Day 2019
St. George became a heroic figure of legend who was declared Patron Saint of England in 1348.
Today’s Doodle by London-based guest artist Alice Pattullo celebrates St. George’s Day, which became an English feast day in 1415.

World Book Day and Copyright takes place today, with festivities such as the Catalan Sant Jordi – to mark Saint George's day, in honour of Catalonia's patron saint.
World Book and Copyright Day is an opportunity to recognise the power of books to change our lives for the better and to support books and those who produce them.
As global symbols of social progress, books – learning and reading - have become targets for those who denigrate culture and education, who reject dialogue and tolerance.
The 24th edition of World Book and Copyright Day will celebrate literature and reading while focusing particularly on the importance of enhancing and protecting Indigenous languages.

Reading a book is in our days a large concept. All formats are available for those who love to read.

Activities:
You will find different ideas and some funny activities to motivate your students to read and to love books on this blog.
You can also organize different events at your school:
- Give a little flower to every student who enter at the school library to get a book or e-book to read!
- Relay readings of books and plays;
- Distribution of bookmarks;
- Reading contests. Announcement of the winners of school literary competitions.
- Take this opportunity to let your students discover something new from what they're used to read. Surprise them! ;
- Ask your students to leave a book on a park bench, metro or bus seat with a note saying “Happy Book and Copyright Day!”;
- Find out how to send students old books to schools and libraries in countries facing a post-disaster situation. Mozambique for exemple. They love this activity;
- Educate students on books pirating: respect for copyright encourages the dissemination of knowledge and rewards their creators and publishers;
- Educate them never throw away their books, getting them or the school involved in local community or online book swapping and donation campaigns and initiatives.
- Plan local reading events in schools and libraries and invite a famous guest to read. Authors are welcome at school, always;

I do love to read! My students love to read! But, most of all, I really believe that reading at school is a value to students' life and studies.
My usual readers knows I write so often on G-Souto's Blog about the importance of reading in school! I have a Master in Literature and Linguistics. So, humanities are my priority and I am a huge fan of books. No matter the format. However I prefer printed books. What can I say?
You will find so many posts about books, reading, literature in my blog! If you search you will find a great number of authors and books in English, French and Portuguese to different levels of education.
And some good apps, animated films and games that involve students into learning the way they like. Using educational digital resources.
